I went to a sing along a sound of music which was so much fun- I went in costume of course
sorry the picture is so poor and my kitchen looks a mess but the outfit is just so cute
Im a bit fatter tho than Julie Andrews
Made from a folkwear pattern which was really easy and fab to use. Used some old curtains in a laura ashley fabric for the dress. Altered the pattern to do a lace up front as ran out of time to fit with hooks and eyes
costumes for fancy dress and the stage dressmaking for me when I have the time

quilting
I ve been so busy lately with lots of projects on the go. Ive made 2 sets of curtains and a baby quilt pictured for my husbands cousin. I'm just finishing a gangster suit for will for his school production of bugsy malone pictures to follow. and am in the process of making something for myself.
I also broke tradition and made a little number for my sisters grandchild a princess dress for Disney on ice. will post shortly. it was very weird as she is so tiny its like dressing a doll!!!!

roman day
Ive just found the photos for roman day. far be it for my boys to want to be easy emperors with a bit of sheeting. Oh no a gladiator and a centurion. thank god for upholstery vinyl. I made tunics in a cotton flannel then sewed the outfits out of vinyl. their grandfather made them spears and shields. the other mothers hate me at school!!! but so what if I can make it I will. Kids love to dress up and they might as well have the proper gear

goodwood
We went to the good wood revival yesterday. its a motor racing day that only has cars from the 1930's to the 1960's and people are encouraged to dress up in period costume. We went as a family from the 1950s'
Will went as a scout I bought the hat and shirt off ebay and the shorts from asda. got some old badges and made a necker
George wore his cotsume from last year when he was in the play shadowlands. I made the tweed jacket and knitted the tank top. he looks really cute. he didnt enjoy wearing shorts though!!!
I made a vogue dress pattern number 1172 and found some ace fabric off rotherham market for £1 metre and made a swing coat from vogue 1137 to match. I made a net underskirt and decorated a hat Ill put some more pictures up shortly. we had a long tiring but great fun day

halloween
This was halloween last year Im only mentioning this as the boys are starting to hint about this year
The theme was heroes and villians
here is me as Dorothy from the wizard of oz complete with Toto
george wanted to be a gunslinger from the westerns so I made him a duster coat out of a waterproof fabric so he could actually wear it out!!! and with my cowboy boots he looks great . He bought the stetson in Florida a few years ago
William wanted to be the Joker from Batman so Icustomised a Burda suit pattern. I made them both a suit for a wedding so the pattern came in handy again. I made it out of some purple material I had laying around and some alexander henry fabric I had earmarked for something else but it looked really cool
happy sewing

knights and castle day
this was for knights and castle day. I made the cape and tunic out of a plain cotton and the chain mail out of a silver net with a grey lining. the hat and belt/ sword were purchased I cut all without a pattern- just guess work really. The rose and unicorn design I downloaded as seperates from embroidery.com and then stiched with my embroidery machine was well pleased with the results
sewing for boys
Having three boys I never thought Id sew for them I was wrong- costumes for school, dressing up,halloween it gets more extravagent by the year here are some examples- the above was down on the farm day and here is Will as a scarecrow -the front pocket of the waistcoat has a little birds nest in it.
Here is George for Victorian day he wanted a top hat ( made of fabric covered carboard) and a frock coat the waistcoat was from a suit I made for a wedding last year
side view same costume
Here is William for the same day. He wanted to look like Russell Crowe in Master and Commander ( not strictly Victorian but the uniforms didnt change much over the years ) so I adpated the idea into a midshipmans outfit. As his hair was long at the time it worked really well!

world war 2 day |
This was world war 2 day- a very simple costume really but I knited the tank top with some variagated wool in order to make it look like fairisle shirt and shorts from a cheap school uniform supplier- cap from grandfather!
